What is the difference between a 3.46 GHz processor and a Celeron D 2.4 GHz Intel Dual Core?
I have a Celeron D 3.46 GHz and I want to upgrade my processor and the motherboard. It is the speed difference between this and a 2.4 GHz Intel Dual Core worth it, or should I go with something faster? I'm trying to stay under $ 300 for the motherboard / processor combo.
Yes, it's worth, depending on how you use your system. If you need fast performance, then the Celeron Processor is not what it should look. (Eg, 3D games) Celeron processor has very little cache (512K) and a very slow FSB = 533MHz. The dual-core chip from Intel will most likely have a 1033Mhz front side bus or better, and at least 1 MB (or even up to 6 MB) cache, depending on model. Please note that the memory must be upgraded along with the motherboard / CPU, as it is unlikely to run at higher clock speed of the frontside bus. Make sure to match the memory speed with the speed of your motherboard for improved performance, reliability.

The following HP notebook cover a price range between $ 659 to $ 929. Four of the five laptops features an Intel Core 2 Duo dual-core to the other with an AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core.
