Engaging interactive content is being used more and more to increase brand awareness in the web, simply because it works. Flash games promotion can keep people focused on your brand for extended periods and coming back for more. When considering a web based Flash game there are two main options available to you. Licensing a pre-built, out of the game pad or custom solution, designed and built from scratch. So what is best for you?
In the face of it, is a bit of a no-brainer for many. Licensed games are cheaper, you can browse and even test finished products before choosing one. Do you know what you're getting, so no surprises at the end of the project and you just saved a piece of your marketing budget that might happen in other places. It's a win-win situation?
If only it were that simple. Unfortunately, a relatively small, short-term budget savings and know exactly what you get for your money from the outset are all licensed solutions have in their favor. There are two major problems with taking the licensing route:
1) You are doing the best solution currently available for your brand. This may sound good, but in reality is likely to be a world apart in terms of how well it fits with his campaign for a solution that was designed and built specifically to your brand. It's like trying to hit a square peg into a round hole. You do not use anything, but only, as marketing solutions for your brand in other areas of your campaign, so why turn this into something different. For example, imagine if all the Car manufacturers used the same off the platform of television or magazine ad, just modified to include your logo! Which brings us to the second problem.
2) Any person is free to license the same game to your website. Probably the Flash game that you are considering licensing and is available in at least a handful of places on the web. Online games portal communications are essential to maximize your game works and exposure of your brand. Most gaming portals will only accept submissions only, and are thus seriously limiting the potential of your campaign going down that road. A custom Flash game not have this problem, because you can be sure your game is not available in any of these sites.
The only surprises you should experience any design project are good. While working with an experienced designer, a good reputation for your Flash game project this should always be the case. A good designer will be able to exceed their expectations every step of the process of coming up with a game concept to finished product, within budget.
When Regarding the marketing of your brand, you want to feature. Although off the shelf solutions may seem a bit more attractive from a budget point of view, the disadvantages far outweigh the savings made. A licensed Flash game will not be unique to your marketing campaign, and if available in other places that will be seriously limiting potential exposure via external sites. At worst, its direct competitors might be using the same game to promote its own brand.
